Pumpkin spice season is my favorite time of year. There is just something about the first cool crisp day and a warm Pumpkin Spice Latte in your hand. I developed this recipe because of my love for pumpkin spice, but I wanted something healthier to use that would not be full of sugar. I have to say, this is one of my favorite fall recipes! It is super simple to make but is packed full of cozy warm fall spices. Use it in your favorite coffee drinks, as a mocktail or cocktail syrup, on ice cream or your favorite dessert, or any other way you would use a regular simple syrup!

Ingredient spotlight

What sets this Pumpkin Spice Syrup apart from the rest is that is made with a natural sweetener and real pumpkin. It is free from artificial ingredients, artificial flavors, and artificial sweeteners. Not only are these ingredients “artificial”, they are also not good for our health. As much as I love Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte, it has a whopping 50 grams of sugar and full of less-than-ideal ingredients. Making your own pumpkin spice coffee syrup at home ensures that your homemade pumpkin spice lattes have significantly less sugar, are made with healthy ingredients but doesn’t lose out on any of the flavor.

This recipe uses real maple syrup and only has 8 grams of added sugar. Maple syrup is a healthy, natural sweetener that helps contribute to the beautiful flavor of the syrup. This syrup is also naturally dairy free and gluten free!

Ideas to use this Pumpkin Spice Syrup

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte– My favorite way to use this syrup is by making your own pumpkin spice lattes. All you need is this pumpkin spice syrup, fresh espresso, and steamed milk. It’s that easy to make a delicious pumpkin latte at home! If you are a coffee and pumpkin lover, check out my Easy Homemade Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer recipe too!

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Chai Latte- Taking a sip of a chai latte immediately makes me feel warm and cozy! This bumps up the flavors of fall season even more by adding in the homemade pumpkin syrup.

Pumpkin Ginger Spice Spritz Mocktail – Talk about delicious fall flavors, this mocktail has it all! Garnish your mocktails with cinnamon sticks and you have a fancy non-alcoholic holiday favorite.

Tools to make the Best Pumpkin Spice Syrup

There are no fancy tools required! This is an easy recipe and the best thing is that you do not even need to heat the syrup, you just simply mix it together. To store, you will need an airtight container or mason jar. Really anything with a lid works! However, I do absolutely love these Coffee Syrup Dispenser Bottles. They are stunning and fit the syrup perfectly in them. Plus they make pouring the syrup out really easy. They come in a pack of two so you can make a double batch and give to a friend or make a different simple syrup such as this Lavender Simple Syrup recipe.

Ingredients for pumpkin spice syrup

Homemade Pumpkin Spice Syrup Ingredients

  • Pumpkin Purée – this recipe uses real pumpkin puree. Just be sure to get the puree and not pumpkin pie filling because the filling is already sweetened! I used canned pumpkin but if you make your own pumpkin puree, that works too!
  • Maple Syrup – used as a natural sweetener.
  • Vanilla Extract – the hint of vanilla compliments the pumpkin spice flavors.
  • Pumpkin Pie Spice â€“ this is a blend of warm spices used in pumpkin pie such as ground cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger. If you do not have this you can substitute for ground cinnamon and a pinch of nutmeg.

How to store the Pumpkin Spice Syrup

I recommend keeping the syrup in the fridge. It will stay good for 10-14 days. (If it will even last that long!!)
